Hello, everyone!
My name is Jennifer Choi and I am currently a freshmen in parsons design school in New York City.
Art & Design are always have been my interest and I am very thankful to my parents who support me to pursue my dream.
Thought I am taking Design & Technology course for my first year, I am actually considering pursuing Illustration or product design as my major next year.
I have whole experience in traditional drawings because drawing is one of my favorite habits. When I do something that I really desire to do I don't know how the time goes by and that happens a lot when I do arts.
In my high school years, I had traditional art classes, painting and drawing classes, every year but I only took one digital art class in my senior year.
Even though I don't have a lot of experiences with software that our classes will soon use, I am thrill to learn more about them to improve the other side of arts rather than just traditional arts, which is why I chose DT course over freshmen foundation.
I am more familiar with PC, but I am trying to adjust with the different functions on MAC since I only have my new macbook ,which I got this summer, with me right now.
It is very hard to pick just one favorite artist because many of them are very great on their own ways.
Anyway.....since I have been mostly faced with traditional arts and I don't know a lot of artist who deals with the technology, hopefully I will have at least one by next semester, my favorite artist is Rob Gonsalves, a Canadian painter of magic realism.
Generally, I don't like the visual style of magic realism and surrealism because I think they are too clean and solid. If someone asks me to choose an artwork to put in my room, I would prefer visually aesthetic Klimt Gustav's painting. But Rob Gonsalves's paintings reminds me of my childhood. His paintings are just like those impossible dreams I wish them to be happened. His artworks have very creative visual ideas and unique perspectives. They often have transformations of an object tuning in to another, the transition steps are developed very smoothly and creatively. The scenes of his painting look impossible ,but at the same time very realistic ,which cause the viewers to fantasize about being inside those sensational places. Also, the small details in his paintings create more realistic views. Over all, I love his painting because each of his pieces tell different magical stories that brings your imaginations up to the climax. I have not yet decided specific sort of arts I would pursue, but I know I love art and will soon find out where my real interests are.
